Dr. Sabine de Günther is currently a Senior Researcher at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (Urban Complexity Lab) and at Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin. Following her studies in Art History, Romance Philology and Media Studies in Marburg, London and Venice, she gained experience in documenting museum collections and began focusing on costume studies, in particular Fashion Photography and Fashion Caricature. The Cluster of Excellence Image Knowledge Gestaltung at Humboldt University Berlin provided an interdisciplinary setting for researching the paintings collection of Franz and Frieda von Lipperheide and for conducting the conference Signs and symbols: dress at the intersection between image and realia (Signs and Symbols 2018, Ed. de Günther/Zitzlsperger). Her research on the paintings collection from the Lipperheide Costume Library (de Günther 2020) was continued in her project Restaging Fashion – Digital contextualization of vestimentary sources. Her most recent project Virtual Couture at the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin explores innovative approaches to the presentation of fashion, textiles and jewellery in the museum context.
