Mould construction for the handmade classic porcelain production consists of three stages. The pre mould is the impression of the master model. The master model can be made of clay, plaster, wood, rubber or other material. The shrinkage of the porcelain body must be calculated before the creation of the master model. A so-called sample zero is then produced from the preform. The mother mold is then cast from the revised zero sample. In the classic mould making processes the working moulds, or production moulds, are then taken from the mother mould. The slip, or liquid porcelain, is then poured into the plaster mould and de-molded. Two firings are necssary to create a durable and translucent object.
